Assam is the state situated in the North - Eastern part of the India. The ancient name of the state Kamarupa. The state is known as the Land of Tea Gardens. Assam is the state known as the member of the Seven Sisters states of India. The state shared its border with  Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh in the North, Mizoram and Tripura in the South, Nagaland and Manipur in the East, Bangladesh, West Bengal and Meghalaya in the West. Dispur, a suburb of Guwahati is the Capital of the Assam. Dibrugarh is the largest Tea Producer city of Tea as it is known as the Tea City Of India. The state is known for its Tea and Silk and Asia's first site for Oil Drilling. Assam is famous for its variety of Flora and Fauna as it is the home of One - Horned Rhino and Wild Water Buffalo and  many more. The state holds the economy of about US$ 57 Billion which is  the 17th largest GDP in India with Per Capita Income of about US$ 1,700.

HISTORY


History of Assam is very unique as Assam  was ruled by various Dynasties like Pala, Koch and Kachari. These Dynasties ruled over Assam for  various years until the Ahom people came in the 13th century. In 15th century, Ahom was in the dominance and after two centuries they defeated the Koch, Kochari and the other  small rulers and gai control over the Assam. Later the Ahom  was defeated by the warriors of Myanmar.

After the  British came into dominance, the Treaty of  Yandabo was signed between Myanmar and the British Government in 1826. Assam became the part of the British India. The British govt appointed the Governor General in the Assam and in 1842 the whole Brahmaputra valley was in the control of British rule. With the long period of British rule, India got Independence from the British rule. In 1950, Assam became the Constituent State of Republic India. 




CULTURE


Assam is counted in one of those states who preserved its cultural and traditional values. The state is the mixture of various racial stokes like Mongoloids, Indo - Burmese, Indo - Iranian and Aryans. The people of the state known as Asomiya. The official language of the state is Assamese and Hindi. The majority of people lived in Assam are Hindu. Muslims and other religous groups also lived in the state. The state is the home of many tribal groups like  Bodo, Kachari and Rabha etc. Most of the tribes have their own principals and languages.
 
The popular Dance of the state is Bihu, Satriya Nritya and Tea folk Dance etc. The popular music of the state is Bihu Geet, Kamrupiya Lokageet, Tokari Geet etc. People of the state wear Mekhela Chador for  Women and Dhoti with long Gamosa for Men. You can feel the beauty and the culture of the  state by exploring about the popular Destinations, food and festivals of the state.

1. KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK.



Kaziranga National Park is one of the most famous destination situated near the Golaghat city of Assam. The park is established in 1908 for the  purpose of save the Vulnerable Species like One-Horned Rhino, Swamp Deer, Elephants and The Flying Squirrels etc. This Site is declared as the UNESCO World Heritage Site  and also the most important tourist place in Assam. You can enjoy the Night experience of the place as this park is opened 24 hours and also the tours like Jungle Safari, Elephant Safari and the Jeep Safari. 2. MAJULI  ISLAND.


Majuli Island is one of the most popular place to visit in the Assam. This place holds the title of world largest Riverine Island covers the distance of about 452 sq. km. In Monsoon Season, Some of part of the Island get submerged in water while the other Bigger Island like Auniati, Garamur and Kamalabari are always on the surface. The scenic beauty, landscapes and the montages attract many visitors every year. There is no doubt that this place is one of the most beautiful place in India. 3. KAKOCHANG  WATERFALLS.


Kankochang Waterfalls is one of the most popular destination of  Assam located 13 km from Bokakhat in Golaghat District in Assam. The waterfall  came down the ground from the mountains lies between coffee and tea gardens which give this place an ultimate beauty and enjoy the feeling of nature. Many visitors came here to experience the nature. You can also see the ancient ruins in Numaligarh which attract many archeologist. You can came here any time but the best time to visit the place is recorded in during Post - Monsoon season, when due to heavy rainfall, the waterfall plummets with abundant water.



4. KAMAKHYA  TEMPLE.


Kamakhya Temple is one of the most famous and important pilgrimage center in Assam. The Temple is dedicated to Goddess Shakti and this temple is also one of the oldest temple in Guwahati. There is a fact that the River Brahmaputra flow red during the June Month. It is said to be  the mensurating blood of Goddess Shakti. Many visitors came every year to visit the temple to worshipped the Goddess. Also the scenic beauty and the landscape of the place attracts the tourists. The best time recorded to visit the temple in the month of June to August.

1. DUCK  MEAT  CURRY.


Duck Meat Curry is one of the most popular dish of Assam. The dish is also known as the Hanhor Mangkho. The dish made at the time of occasion in every corner of the state. This dish is very rich is protein and  have an unforgettable taste. The dish is made of Ash Gourd is the most loved but other style such as with lentils, sesame seeds or even with pumpkin are quite popular too. whenever to visit the state must try this dish to experience the pleasant taste.



2. BAANHGAJOR  LAGOT  KUKURA.


Baanhgajor Kukura is one of the moat popular dish of Assam. The term Baanhgajor Lagot Kukura means Chicken with Bamboo Shoots. This is the most delicious Dish of Assam. The Dish is prepared with Chicken meat and Bamboo shoots and the Lentils. The Taste of the Bamboo Shoots also leaves behind the taste of other meat dishes. The taste of the dish reminds the ancient culture of the state and one of the most consuming dish of the Assam.



3. ALOO  PITIKA.


Aloo Pitika is the dish found in the every corner of the Assam. It is the simple dish accompanied  to rice and dal. This dish is the most loved by the people of Assam. This dish is consume in the lunch or breakfast. The dish is made with mashed Potatoes with mustard oil, onions, coriander and salt. The taste of the dish is so delight and very tasty so whenever you visit the state must try this dish.



4. OU  TENGA.


Ou Tenga is the  sweet and sour chutney is the most popular dish of Assam. This chutney is very famous as it is found in the every corner of the state. The Ou Tenga is made with the Ou means the Elephant apple and Jaggery. The Ou is first boiled in water then mashed lightly and sauteed with mustard seeds in slight oil and then the jaggery is added in it. The taste of the chutney is hard to forget and is served as the compliment with your meal.

1. JONBEEL MELA.


Jonbeel mela is one of the most popular festival celebrate in every part of the Assam. The concept of this festival is based on ancient rituals and system. It put on display a very fine long lost tradition of the old world, the Barter System, where you exchange the goods you have with someone who has something you want but do not have. This festival is celebrated with full of joy and happiness where all the members of the society gather and celebrate this festival as the Carnival.




2. BAISHAGU FESTIVAL.


Baishagu festival is one of the most popular festival celebrate in the Assam. The festival is celebrated by the Bodo Tribes with full excitement. It is celebrated in the month of the Bengali New Year in April. On this day, All the groups together celebrate this festival by performing the Bihu dance and by singing the folk songs. The people wear their traditional dresses. This festival brings the joy and happiness and remind us about the endangered tribal groups of India.



3. AMBUBASI MELA.


Ambubasi Mela is one of the most popular festival celebrate in the  Assam. This festival is celebrated at the famous Kamakhya temple of Assam. It is one spot of 9 worship places dedicated to goddess Shakti. This festival is celebrated in the period of menstrual cycle days of the aforesaid goddess over the course of many days. Many devotees came the temple to witnessed and worshipped of the goddess shakti. 



4. ASSAM TEA FESTIVAL.


Assam Tea Festival is one of the most popular festival celebrated in Assam. As we all know that tea is became the brand identity of the state. The festival is all about the tea, dance and music. On this day, many activities like Ethnic Fair, Food Fests and adventure sports. The session organized to enhance the knowledge of the people about the Tea. You can taste various variety of tea as many stall and exibitions held in the celebration. This festival brings joy and Happiness in everyone's heart.
