Madhya Pradesh is the second largest state of India situated in the centre of the country, established on 1 November 1956. The state hold the fifth position in term of population as the popular of Madhya Pradesh is about 7.33 crores. Bhopal is the capital city of the state. Indore is the Cleanest city of India. The state shared its border with Uttar-pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Chattisgarh and Maharashtra. Madhya Pradesh has the largest reserves of Diamond and Copper in India. The state holds the 10th largest state economy with the GDP of about ₹8.09 crores. Madhya Pradesh ranks 32th place in the Human Development Index. About 30% of area of the state covered with forest. 


Culture of Madhya Pradesh


Madhya Pradesh preserved its Culture and Tradition as its 75% of total population lived in villages whose main occupation is Agriculture while the rest 25% lived in cities. Hindi is the official language and also the most spoken language of the state. The other languages are Urdu, Marathi, Malvi, Bundeli and Bagheli also spoken in the state. The majority of people in Madhya Pradesh are Hindus while Islam making up the largest minority religion. Other religious groups like Sikhs, Christians also lived here. 

Madhya Pradesh has the large number of tribal groups like Gonds, the largest tribal groups while Bhils are the second largest tribal groups  of Madhya Pradesh. Other tribal groups are Begas, Bharia, Korku and Santiyas.

1. Sanchi Stupa.

Sanchi Stupa is the most famous monument situated in the Bhopal city of Madhya Pradesh. It is the oldest Buddhist monument of the India. It was built by the Samraat Ashoka in 262 BC after he adopted the Buddhism and non violence after the battle of Kalinga. The Stupa is considered as the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The complex is made up of many stupas, temples, Monasteries and pillars. The Stupa Also has the archeological museum. Many tourists came every year to visit the Sanchi stupa to gain knowledge about that time.

2. Mahakaleshwar Temple.

Mahakaleshwar Temple is situated in the Ujjain city of Madhya Pradesh. It is the holy pilgrimage for Hindu community. This Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva as it is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The temple situated near the river Shipra. Millions of devotees came every year to worship lord Shiva. The temple is famous for Bhasm arti, a daily ritual perform every morning to pay obeisance to lord Mahakaleshwar.

3. Pachmarhi.

Pachmarhi is the only hill station in Madhya Pradesh aslo known as the "Queen of Satpura". The place is listed in UNESCO Biosphere reserves. It was said that the Pandavas from the epic mahabharat spent few day here during there exile. This hill station is also the most visited place by tourists every year. The scenic beauty and the showers fill your heart with full of joy and excitement.

4. Chitrakoot.

Chitrakoot is the most famous destination in Madhya Pradesh known for his sublime beauty which is the major attraction for the tourists. The city holding the title of the "Place of many wonders" Because of the presence of Cheetals (deers) in the city. The city was mention the the epic Ramayana as the dwelling place of lord Rama an goddess Sita during their exile. Due to this reason this is known as the sacred town.

1. Bhopali Gosht Korma:-

Bhopali Gosht Korma is one of most famous dish of  the state. It is a part of the ancient Nawabi cuisine. The process of making this dish quite interesting. This dish is made by slow  cooking of mutton in a spicy gravy. After being cooked for many hours, the mutton get soft and give an unforgettable taste to mouth. This dish is highly recommended to non vegitarian people. 


2. Bhutte ka khees.

Bhutte ka khees is very popular street food found in every corner of Madhya Pradesh. It is more popular the Indore city of the state. The name of the dish clearly indicate that the dish is made up of corns. The ingredients used to make this dish is grated corns, coconut, mils and added spices. Mustard seeds and green chillies are used as the topping to enhance the taste of the dish. It is very healthy and nutritional dish. 


3. Dal Bafla.

Dal Bafla is the most famous traditional dish of Madhya Pradesh. It is the part of the menu for special occasions and social gathering. This dish taste like Daal Baati. It is prepared by baking wheat balls, dipped with ghee and consume with spicy daal. And it is also served with chutney and curry. This dish is popularly available in every corner of the state. 


4. Mawa Baati.

Mawa Baati is one of the most popular sweet dish of Madhya Pradesh. This dish is look like bigger Gulab Jamun. It is prepared with Mawa dough which is mixed with dry fruits. Deep fried the balls then soaked it in the sugar solution to add sweetness to the dish. This dish is served on the special occasions as the desert. 


There are more dishes left to discuss like poha, Biryani pilaf and palak puri which gives you an unforgettable taste. So whenever you visit the state, must try these dishes to experience the traditional taste of the state. 



Popular Festivals of Madhya Pradesh


Madhya Pradesh is famous for its traditional festivals which is celebrated with full of joy and excitement. So lets discuss about the famous festivals of Madhya Pradesh. 


1. Ujjain Kumbh Mela.

Kumbh Mela is one of the most holiest festival for the Hindu religion. This Mela is celebrated once in every 12 years only in four places of India. These cities are Ujjain, Allahabad, Haridwar and Nasik. This festival is celebrated in the victory of good over evil. The uncountable devotees came to became the part of the holy Mela. In Ujjain, at the time of festival people dip in the holy river Shipra and wash away all their sins. This Mela is celebrated in the month of April and May. The last Kumbh mela was celebrated in the year of 2016.


2. Lokrang Festival.

Lokrang festival is one of the most famous festival celebrated in Bhopal city of Madhya Pradesh. This festival celebrated in the month of january every year. The aim of this festival is to erase all the boundaries between states and make a symbol of United India. The duration of the festival is 4 to 5 days where the cultural dance performance of traditional Indian style and the Articrafts by the different tribal groups are sold in this festival. 


3. Bhagoriya Haat Festival.

Bhagoriya Haat Festival is the famous festival celebrated by the tribal communities of Madhya Pradesh. The festival is celebrated in the March, right before Holi and known as the "Festival of Love" where young boys and girls are allowed to choose their life partners. The boys applied red powder on face of the girl they liked and if the girl rejected their proposal, the boy trying to convince the girl to become his life partner. Their relationship cannot be questioned or rejected by their parents. 


4. Khajuraaho Dance Festival.

Khajuraaho Dance Festival is one of the most famous festival of Madhya Pradesh celebrated in the. khajuraaho district in the month of February. This 7 days long festival celebrated just in in front of Vishwanath and Chitragupta Temple. It is a festival of dance where many traditional dance forms are performed by the artists from different states like Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak,  Odissi etc. The handmade Articrafts made by the locals are sold in the markets is also the major attraction for the tourists.
